Donald Trump suggested in a series of posts on his social media network Truth that the state of New Mexico should be renamed to New America, an idea already rejected by state authorities. This was yet another of the bizarre posts from the US president, who besides the name change for the state acquired from the Spanish in 1853, also shared images of the Moon with the inscription "the Moon is ours" and the Strait of Hormuz as "new US territory".
The 80-year-old president also posted several apparently AI-generated images, where he appeared alongside President Washington, portrayed as a wrestler similar to Hulk Hogan, as commander of a futuristic robot squadron, or defeating Iran. Trump stated in his posts that he has already made "billions of dollars in stocks and other securities for the USA, not for me," arguing that he governs "for our country, not for me."
In the context of the ongoing conflict with Iran, which has lasted longer than expected, Trump shared images showing the country destroyed, suggesting multiple times that the island of Kharg could be taken by American troops. The president classified Iran as "a failed nation" and shared infographics arguing that the Iranian currency was "destroyed."
The Iranian currency, the rial, has depreciated more than 60% since March, when the USA and Israel carried out bombings on Iran. Despite the country facing runaway inflation and the heaviest sanctions in the world, several analysts warn that assuming an economic collapse of Iran is premature.
