Thousands attend Ratko Mladić's funeral, EU criticizes "glorification"

Thousands of people attended the funeral of Ratko Mladić, known as the "Butcher of Bosnia." The former Bosnian-Serb general died in prison where he was serving a life sentence imposed by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia for his role in the Srebrenica massacre, which happened in 1995.

In Belgrade, capital of Serbia, Mladić was honored as a national hero during the funeral proceedings, with crowds gathering to pay respects to the former military commander.

The European Union strongly criticized the way Mladić's memory was handled, issuing a statement that condemned the "glorification" of the former Bosnian-Serb general, considering it an offense to the victims of the conflict and their families.
