José Luís Carneiro was on Monday at a fuel station in Tuy, Galicia, where he compared fuel prices in Spain with those in Portugal. The secretary-general of PS stated that the difference reaches 30 to 40 cents per liter, considering that Portugal is losing competitiveness, namely in transport and economic activities.
During the visit, Carneiro accused the Portuguese Government of profiting from the rise in fuel prices. The socialist leader emphasized that Portuguese consumers are paying more than Spaniards, which represents a significant disadvantage for the national economy.
This comparison comes in a context of constant increases in fuel prices in Portugal, which has particularly affected the transport sector and Portuguese families. PS has been using this issue as a political argument against the executive's policies.
