PAN to vote against censure motion for refusing to "play along with Chega's media spectacle"

SIC Notícias7 September 2026 at 17:17

PAN's sole deputy, Inês Sousa Real, announced that the party will vote against the censure motion against the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves. The decision was justified by PAN's refusal to "play along with Chega's media spectacle," which was the party that presented the censure motion.

Inês Sousa Real considered that Minister Luís Neves "does not have the conditions" to remain in office, thus recognizing that there are reasons to question his performance. However, the PAN deputy defended that the censure motion is not the appropriate instrument for this specific context.

The party thus chose a position of reproving the minister's conduct without supporting Chega's initiative, seeking to distinguish itself from the political strategy of the party that proposed the motion. This position reflects PAN's attempt to distance itself from what it considers to be political instrumentalization of the parliamentary instrument.
