Ricardo Araújo: "One of the reasons for this road pressure is the demand for parking"

Mais Guimarães7 September 2026 at 13:29

The mayor of Guimarães, Ricardo Araújo, presented the new service "Vai e Vem" [Go and Come], which results from a needs diagnosis carried out by the Municipality in partnership with the Hospital da Senhora da Oliveira and Vitrus, the entity responsible for operating the service.

According to the mayor, there has been a serious traffic congestion problem at the city's entrance for some time, particularly near the hospital. The diagnosis identified one of the main causes of this road pressure: the demand for parking. Ricardo Araújo recalled that the hospital has approximately 3,000 workers, in addition to citizens who daily need to use the hospital facility.

The "Vai e Vem" service allows users to leave their car at the parking lot near the Multiusos and use a dedicated transport with a direct connection to the hospital. The operation runs Monday to Friday, from 07:30 to 19:30, with a frequency of every 10 minutes, using a bus with approximately 50 seats and a mini-bus with capacity for about 20 people.

The mayor emphasized that this is a pilot experience that will be in operation until the end of the year, during which period its impact on road traffic and parking demand in that area of the city will be monitored and evaluated.
