PS sparks urgency debate on agriculture and fisheries problems in the Azores

jornalacores9.pt7 September 2026 at 13:56

The PS, the largest opposition party in the Azores, announced that it will promote next week an urgency debate in the Regional Legislative Assembly on the situation of Azorean agriculture and the increase in costs in the primary sector. The party considered it necessary to raise this discussion after worrying signs that have been observed in recent weeks.

The debate also addresses the situation of fisheries in the region, thus completing a broader analysis of the problems affecting the Azorean primary sector. The parliamentary initiative comes at a time of particular difficulty for local producers.

In the area of agriculture, the PS highlights that there have been drops in the price of milk paid to producers, which has been compromising the economic viability of Azorean agricultural holdings. This factor, combined with the increase in production costs, has created a difficult situation for farmers in the region.
