The European Commission reaffirmed that the use of frozen Russian assets continues to be a priority and that this issue "never left the agenda". This guarantee comes despite the proposal not having obtained sufficient support among the member states of the European Union.
The frozen Russian assets refer to financial assets belonging to Russia that were blocked as part of the sanctions imposed by the EU in response to the invasion of Ukraine. The European Commission has been exploring ways to use these funds to support Ukraine's reconstruction and other expenses related to the conflict.
