The Regional Government of the Azores will proceed with a pilot project to monitor and co-finance home care support for Machado-Joseph patients. This measure had been planned for more than two years, and has now finally been implemented through the publication of a regulatory decree.
The decree published today establishes the regulation for the allocation of clinical material and specific support in providing care to individuals diagnosed with Machado-Joseph disease. This degenerative disease affects the nervous system and requires ongoing monitoring.
The pilot project aims to provide adequate support to patients, allowing them to stay in their own homes, reducing the need for frequent trips to health facilities and improving the quality of life of patients and their families.
The publication of the decree represents the fulfillment of an old promise by the Regional Executive of the Azores, which had committed to regulating these supports more than two years ago, but only now has implemented this intention through this legislation.
