The Socialist Party (PS) has already ensured it will not enable any motion of censure presented by Chega against the Government. This position was confirmed before the vote that took place in the assembly.
However, the PS's voting direction regarding the motion of censure — whether it will be against or an abstention — will only be announced on Tuesday. The decision is dependent on internal party deliberation.
During the period that followed the discussion, the PS took the opportunity to attack the Government, criticizing it for compromising the country's competitiveness. This approach allowed the party to stake out its political position while preparing for the vote.
In this way, the PS ended up saving the Government from Chega's motion of censure, although it used the occasion to exert political pressure on the executive regarding economic policy and competitiveness.
