The National Road Safety Authority (ANSR), the National Republican Guard (GNR) and the Public Security Police (PSP) will promote, between September 8 and 14, the ninth campaign of the 2026 National Enforcement Plan, focused on the correct use of safety devices. Under the slogan "Buckle Up, Stay Alive", the campaign aims to alert drivers and passengers to the importance of seat belts, child restraint systems and helmets.
According to the three entities, the correct use of a child restraint system can reduce the risk of death by approximately 71% in infants and by 54% in children aged one to four. The use of a certified helmet, properly tightened and adjusted, reduces the risk of death in case of an accident by approximately 40%.
Data for the period between 2021 and 2024 show that 8,210 passengers riding in the rear seat without an adequate restraint system were victims of road accidents. Of this total, 274 suffered serious injuries and 69 died. The campaign combines awareness actions, carried out by ANSR, with enforcement operations carried out by GNR and PSP.
ANSR, GNR and PSP offer five recommendations to drivers and passengers, including always using seat belts, transporting children in certified restraint systems appropriate to their height, and using certified and properly adjusted helmets. The National Enforcement Plan is developed annually based on European recommendations and the Vision Zero 2030 strategic framework, which aims to eliminate fatalities on the roads.
