Thermometers are rising in Portugal and rural fire danger has surged, leading the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) to issue high alerts. According to IPMA, 19 municipalities are at maximum fire risk, representing a critical level of danger.
IPMA warned that this high rural fire danger situation should persist in several districts across the country until at least Tuesday. This forecast raises concerns about the risk of fires during this period.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, considering the meteorological conditions favorable to the spread of blazes. Maximum risk implies that conditions are extremely conducive to the occurrence and rapid spread of rural fires.
