The Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP) will kick off the 2026/2027 Academic Year on September 14, with an Official Opening Session at 5:00 PM in the Fernando Távora Auditorium. The event, free and open to the public, will feature the presence of economist and Professor Emerita of the Faculty of Economics and Management of the University of Porto, Elisa Ferreira, who will present the conference "When the ordinary citizen thinks about architecture…", where she will address the relationship between architecture and everyday life.
Elisa Ferreira has an extensive academic and political background, having served as Minister of the Environment and Planning and as European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms. Her conference will mark the solemn start of the academic year at the institution.
During the ceremony, several awards will be presented to students who distinguished themselves in the past year. The Pedro Branco Award will be given to Pedro Matias Gonçalves da Costa Ramalho, the Ricardo Spratley Award to Pedro António Freitas Almada, and the 3rd edition of the Nicolau Nasoni Award to Maria Falcão Basilio Seoane Pereira, a student of the Integrated Master's in Architecture.
The PhD students who completed their theses in the 2024/2025 academic year will also be honored, including Carla Conceição Barreto, Elena Parnisari, Filipe Magalhães, Inês Vieira Rodrigues, Maria Isabel Mendonça, and Rita Monteiro Vieira, recognizing the quality of research developed at FAUP.
