Egyptian TV presenter Sarah Khalifa, 39, was sentenced to death by hanging for involvement in a synthetic drug manufacturing and trafficking scheme. The decision was made on Saturday (5) by a Cairo criminal court, which also sentenced 11 other defendants to death. Khalifa denies the accusations and can still appeal the sentence.
Known in Egypt for hosting the police program "Mission Impossible," aired on private channel Al-Mehwar TV, Khalifa gained notoriety for covering crime and security-related topics. According to local press, she also maintained businesses outside of television, including a cosmetic surgery clinic and an event planning company.
Khalifa was arrested in Cairo in April 2025, when she became under investigation in the case. According to the prosecution, she was part of a criminal organization that imported raw materials used in the manufacture of synthetic drugs, in addition to producing and distributing the narcotics.
