Despite there being more trained teachers, Pordata data reveals that the number of newly qualified teachers is not enough to meet the needs of the Portuguese education system. The situation is due to the fact that there continue to be vacancies to be filled due to teacher retirements.
According to the mentioned data, there are around two thousand new teachers per year, while approximately three thousand retirements are estimated annually. This difference of around one thousand teachers per year contributes to the continuous deficit of teachers in the country.
