Before winning a Grammy and becoming one of those responsible for bringing a new generation closer to jazz, singer Laufey had already participated in music competition shows in Iceland. At 15 years old, in 2014, she competed in Iceland's Got Talent, drawing attention by singing and playing piano. The Iceland's Got Talent final was broadcast live in April 2014, and Laufey successfully advanced to the final stage, but ultimately did not make it to the top three.
The following year, in 2015, the experience repeated itself with Laufey's participation in Iceland's The Voice. This time, she managed to advance to the semi-final of the show, entering the history of the competition. The Iceland's Voice semi-final showcased her musical talent.
These appearances on reality shows happened before her international success, which included winning a Grammy and being recognized as one of the main people responsible for bringing young audiences closer to jazz. The Icelandic-Chinese artist Laufey's early competition experiences laid the foundation for her later music career.
