The relationship between Elton John and Princess Diana was marked by friendship, a brief break-up and one of the most well-known moments in the recent history of the British royal family. The two met before Diana's marriage to then-Prince Charles and developed a close relationship, especially around charitable causes.
In 1997, however, the two ended up going several months without speaking. The rift occurred due to a disagreement involving a charity book related to fashion designer Gianni Versace, a friend of both.
The reconciliation happened after Versace's assassination in July 1997. Diana and Elton met at the designer's funeral in Milan, and she ended up comforting the singer, who was deeply shaken by the loss.
Just over a month after their reunion in Milan, Diana died in a car accident, and Elton John paid an emotional tribute at the princess's funeral.
