An extreme weather phenomenon hit the municipalities of Albergaria-a-Velha and Oliveira de Azeméis, causing significant material damage in both localities. The storm was characterized by a combination of factors that made the event particularly intense and destructive.
The main cause of the damage was the fall of a large amount of water in a very short period of time. This intense precipitation was accompanied by strong winds and hail, which aggravated the effects of the storm in the affected areas.
The ice balls that fell during the storm had considerable dimensions, reaching between two to three centimeters in diameter. This large-sized hail contributed to the material damage recorded in the homes and infrastructure of the two cities.
