Portimonense SC suspends players over illegal betting suspicions

Portimonense Sporting Clube, from the First District Division of the Algarve Football Association, has suspended players due to suspicions of their involvement in an illegal betting scheme during the 2025/26 season. The club expressed its deepest displeasure, sadness and total repudiation regarding these suspicions.

In the season in question, Portimonense competed in Série D but was relegated after finishing in 12th place. According to sports newspaper Record, the Disciplinary Committee of the Portuguese Football Federation has initiated proceedings involving 26 people.

One of the measures taken by the club was the preventive suspension of players with immediate effect and until the total clarification of the proceedings. All appropriate internal and disciplinary inquiries have also been initiated to establish the full facts and the respective individual responsibilities of each party involved.

Portimonense guarantees that it will act relentlessly and with the utmost rigor, expressing its availability for direct and permanent contact with the competent entities, providing all assistance and active collaboration with the authorities.
