The Patriarch of Lisbon, D. Rui Valério, presided over the closing Mass of the 52nd National Encounter of Fraternal Gatherings at the Sanctuary of Fatima, calling for a missionary attitude and service to unity, warning that "it is not enough to be together to be united" and that Christian unity comes from Christ, not just from sympathy or friendship. In his homily before thousands of people at Cova da Iria, the prelate criticized "activism" without true service, defended that Christians cannot live "closed in their individual salvation" and called for a fraternity that combats indifference, with the courage to speak truth to "save the relationship, never destroy the other." D. Rui Valério also urged Christians not to be afraid to go out on mission, starting with "concrete faces" such as young people who have lost the meaning of life, families that need support, or people distant from faith.
