The announcement of another sharp rise in fuel prices sparked a rush to petrol stations in the first hours of this Saturday. Many drivers wanted to take advantage and fill up their tanks before the new increase takes effect.
Starting Monday, diesel will rise 12 cents per liter and gasoline 9.5 cents per liter. This is one of the largest increases in fuel prices recorded recently.
Despite the reinforced tax discount applied by the Government, which aims to mitigate the impact on consumers, the increases will still be significant. The Executive has been implementing support measures to try to contain the price escalation.
This new wave of increases comes in a context of strong pressure on energy and fuel prices, which has deeply affected the purchasing power of Portuguese households.
