Several sections of the Itinerário Principal (IP) 3, between Coimbra and Viseu, will be closed to traffic from Monday (7) to Wednesday (9), due to work on the bridge over the Dão river and the road widening project. On Monday, traffic will be interrupted in the Coimbra/Viseu direction, between the junctions of Mortágua and Santa Comba Dão, between 8am and 6pm, for work on repairing the expansion joints of the bridge over the Dão river, at kilometre 75.3. During this period, traffic will be diverted via national roads 228 and 234.
On Tuesday (8) night into Wednesday (9), the restrictions will be related to work to improve traffic conditions as part of the IP3 widening project. On Tuesday night into Wednesday, between 9pm and 5am, traffic will be closed between the junctions of Canas de Santa Maria and São Miguel do Outeiro, with diversion via the old EN2. On the following night, between 9pm on Wednesday (9) and 5am on Thursday (10), the closure will cover the section between Vila Pouca (Treixedo) and Tondela Sul, also using the old EN2 as an alternative.
According to Infra-estruturas de Portugal (IP), the work includes pavement restoration, execution of road markings, and installation of rigid concrete barriers. This intervention is part of the IP3 widening and upgrading project between Santa Comba Dão and Viseu, representing an investment of approximately 103 million euros and covering 27.5 kilometres.
The project includes widening the platform to two lanes in each direction, improving the alignment and accessibility to the local road network, and strengthening the pavement, signage, and safety equipment. The section under intervention crosses the municipalities of Santa Comba Dão, Tondela, and Viseu.
