The Évora City Council achieved a contractual execution rate of 94.1% in the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) projects – Cultural Heritage – associated with the European Capital of Culture Évora 2027. The assessment was presented by Councilor Teresa Batista at the public Council meeting on September 3, during which she provided an update on the physical and financial execution of the projects included in Évora 2027's Bidbook. In just eight months, of the 6.95 million euros in approved funding for three projects in execution, 6.54 million euros are already contractualized.
The three projects with ongoing execution are considered structural for Évora's preparation for 2027. The Old Granaries of EPAC show the highest rate, with 99.9% contractual execution on funding of 2.35 million euros. The Arena de Évora registers 94.6% execution, corresponding to approximately 473 thousand euros of the 500 thousand euros approved. The Rossio de São Brás represents the largest investment, with 4.1 million euros approved and 90.8% execution, approximately 3.72 million euros.
Two projects did not proceed due to tenders being left empty. The Municipal Photographic Archive and the Convento dos Remédios, which represented 970 thousand euros in approved funding, recorded no execution, despite the efforts made by the Municipal Executive and technical teams. The City Hall also highlighted that when the current Executive took office, no funding was guaranteed and there was no maturity in the submitted projects.
The council considers that the equipment and interventions covered are essential for the realization of Évora as European Capital of Culture in 2027, aiming not only to recover and enhance heritage, but also to create conditions for a more ambitious cultural programming. The completion of the investments, especially resolving the projects with empty tenders, constitutes one of the Municipality's main tasks in the coming months.
