"BAOBÁS" Show Brings Brazilian Identity and Resistance to the Stage in Lagoa

Jornal do Algarve5 September 2026 at 10:01

The Auditório Carlos do Carmo in Lagoa hosts on September 19th at 7:00 PM the "BAOBÁS" dance show, produced by the Grupo Impacto de Dança from Brazil. This is the first fully original show by this Brazilian group, which draws on indigenous and African roots to reflect on the formation of Brazilian society, cultural identity, and the struggles of minorities through art.

The creation seeks to explore elements of the identity of the Brazilian people, recovering indigenous and African influences and questioning how the encounter between different cultures contributed to the construction of contemporary Brazilian society. Dance and culture are presented as instruments of expression and affirmation of the forms of resistance of minorities.

The show features general direction by Patrícia Lima and artistic direction by Lidiane Jacinto, choreography by the Grupo Impacto itself, and 12 dancers on stage. The European executive production is handled by Sara Lamares from Fadas e Elfos – Associação Cultural.

Tickets cost six euros, with discounts available for holders of the Cultural Passport. Tickets can be purchased at the online box office, at CTT, FNAC, and Worten box offices, as well as at the Auditório Carlos do Carmo, Centro Cultural Convento de São José, and the Single Counter of the Lagoa Municipal Council.
