The bishop of Angra, D. Armando Esteves Domingues, participated in the Thanksgiving Eucharist for the 50 years of Azores Autonomy, at the Matriz Church in Horta, where he called for governance based on co-responsibility and solidarity between islands. Using the metaphor of the miraculous catch of fish, the prelate warned of the dangers of territorial individualism and argued that autonomy is not built in isolation, but in the interdependence between the various territories of the archipelago. In the homily, which evoked the figure of St. Gregory the Great and the encyclical 'Magnifica Humanitas' by Leo XIV, the bishop emphasized that public decisions must prioritize the most vulnerable and that the future of the region depends on the eradication of poverty and social exclusion.
