Estarreja: ENERGEST optimizes CIRES energy efficiency

CIRES – Companhia Industrial de Resinas Sintéticas is a chemical sector company belonging to the Shin-Etsu Group, specializing in PVC production, with a manufacturing unit in Estarreja. The company has been operating for more than eight years a Cogeneration Plant with natural gas turbine for the production of electrical and thermal energy, considered essential for its international competitiveness.

ENERGEST – Engenharia e Sistemas de Energia was the company responsible for the design, construction, and installation of the recovery boiler with post-combustion system and the BoP (Balance of Plant) of this plant.

CIRES again turned to ENERGEST to implement an additional measure to optimize the overall performance of the installation. This intervention consisted of integrating a third heat economizer, allowing for greater utilization of exhaust gas energy and increased overall system efficiency.

The recovery boiler is also prepared to operate as a conventional boiler, producing the same 35 tons per hour of saturated steam at 10 barg, through the adaptation of a combustion system with appropriate power and characteristics.
