The Portuguese Government considered that the rating upgrade by Fitch is another step towards credibility and growing international confidence in the country. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Paulo Rangel, stated through social media that Portugal is today stronger, more credible and with greater international recognition, reinforcing its external projection and its capacity to assert itself as an increasingly relevant, predictable and reliable partner.
The Fitch agency raised Portugal's rating from A to A+, with stable outlook. According to the agency, this upgrade reflects the strengthening of Portuguese public finances, including a projected trajectory of public debt reduction and considerably stronger budget balances than those of its peers, supported by a strong political commitment to fiscal prudence.
The Minister of Finance, Joaquim Miranda Sarmento, stated that this improvement places Portugal at the level of France and Belgium, demonstrating the confidence of international investors. The government official considered this result as another great victory for Portugal, particularly when it occurs in a geopolitical and economic context still marked by uncertainty and instability.
The President of the Republic, António José Seguro, also welcomed the Fitch decision. In a message published on the Presidency's page, Seguro congratulated himself on the elevation of the financial rating, considering it excellent news and an important external recognition of Portugal's performance, the result of a medium and long-term evolution supported by the effort of the Portuguese people and an orientation of responsibility maintained across different governments.
