CHEGA wants external audit of RTP accounts

dnoticias.pt5 September 2026 at 09:36

CHEGA presented in the Assembly of the Republic a recommendation project to the Government for the conduct of an external and independent audit of RTP. The objective is to evaluate the financial, remuneration, human resources management and internal control mechanisms of the public company over a period of eleven years, between 2013 and 2024.

The political initiative comes following a preliminary report prepared by the Inspectorate-General of Finance, which raised doubts about the management of the public television broadcaster during the period from 2018 to 2024. This preliminary report is what is at the origin of the pressure for a more thorough analysis of RTP's accounts.

The document from the Inspectorate-General of Finance particularly points to payments made by RTP amounting to approximately 12.25 million euros, whose destination or justification raised questions on the part of the inspecting entity. These payments are at the center of the concerns that motivated the audit request.

CHEGA's project thus aims to guarantee transparency and accountability in the management of public funds channeled to the public television service, intending that an external and independent entity analyze in detail RTP's management practices over the period in question.

Azores: Bishop of Angra rejects "isolation" and calls for solidarity between islands

The bishop of Angra, D. Armando Esteves Domingues, participated in the Thanksgiving Eucharist for the 50 years of Azores Autonomy, at the Matriz Church in Horta, where he called for governance based on co-responsibility and solidarity between islands. Using the metaphor of the miraculous catch of fish, the prelate warned of the dangers of territorial individualism and argued that autonomy is not built in isolation, but in the interdependence between the various territories of the archipelago. In the homily, which evoked the figure of St. Gregory the Great and the encyclical 'Magnifica Humanitas' by Leo XIV, the bishop emphasized that public decisions must prioritize the most vulnerable and that the future of the region depends on the eradication of poverty and social exclusion.
