New planetary system discovered with a potentially habitable world

SIC Notícias5 September 2026 at 07:30

Scientists discovered a new planetary system that contains a potentially habitable world. The team responsible for the discovery identified two planets orbiting a nearby star.

One of the planets completes an orbit around its star in less than a day. Due to its extreme proximity to the star, researchers believe this celestial body may be a lava world, with extremely high temperatures.

The second planet in the system is located in the so-called habitable zone. This region is where, under certain conditions, liquid water can exist on the surface of a planet, one of the essential ingredients for life as we know it.

The discovery was recently announced and represents another advance in the search for planets that can harbor favorable conditions for life outside our Solar System.

Social jetlag: sleeping more on weekends can increase anxiety in teenagers, new study shows

A new meta-analysis published in the journal Sleep Medicine Reviews found that teenagers between 12 and 18 years old who sleep more on weekends may have higher levels of anxiety. Analyzing data from more than 235,000 young people and eight studies on the topic, researchers identified a link between the so-called "social jetlag" — the discrepancy between the teenager's biological clock and the school routine — and anxiety symptoms such as worry and restlessness. The greater the difference between sleep schedules during the week and on weekends, the more likely young people are to report higher levels of anxiety, reinforcing the importance of sleep as one of the pillars of mental health in adolescence.
