cbn5 September 2026 at 04:00

The singer Elton John will be the main attraction at Rock in Rio 2026, taking the Mundo stage shortly after midnight on September 7th. The event date is focused on a mix of jazz, pop music and other musical genres.

Elton John had announced a few years ago his retirement from the stage, but returned to the stage and will perform few shows. The show at Rock in Rio 2026 is part of this limited return of the artist.

The setlist prepared for the performance is quite robust and brings a little bit of everything from the singer's career. The artist's last performance, held in June, included varied songs from the albums Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Caribou and Honky Château.

Among the songs planned for the setlist are Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting, Bennie and the Jets, I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues, Tiny Dancer, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Rocket Man, Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, Crocodile Rock and other classic tracks from the artist's repertoire.

Rock in Rio 2026: storms have marked the festival's history; remember

Rain and Rock in Rio have a long history together, dating back to the festival's first edition in 1985, when storms transformed the audience's experience and became part of the event's memory. At the debut, heavy rain hit Rock City in Jacarepaguá and turned the grounds into a huge mud pit. Images of the audience covered in mud, including during Queen's performance with Freddie Mercury, became iconic marks of the festival. The first edition brought together approximately 1.38 million people over ten days.

Before being Calvin Harris: Rock in Rio DJ released songs at 18 years old under a different name

Calvin Harris, the headliner at Rock in Rio's Palco Mundo, didn't always use that name. At 18 years old, in 2002, the Scottish DJ released "Da Bongos" and "Brighter Days" under the stage name Stouffer, in physical formats such as 12-inch single and CD-EP. This phase lasted a short time, and in 2004 he was already credited as Calvin Harris on the song "Let me know," featuring Ayah Marar, on the compilation Electric Soul, Vol. 2, by duo The Unabombers. The name Calvin Harris only gained prominence a few years later.
