PCP considers that the opening of the two new road variants to the towns of Figueira de Cavaleiros and Beringel represents "an advance" that benefits the populations and the region of Baixo Alentejo. However, the communist party maintains the demand that IP8 connects Sines to Vila Verde de Ficalho, on the border with Spain.
The Direction of the Regional Organization of Beja (DORBE) of PCP issued a statement in which it emphasizes that, at the current pace, the fulfillment of this population demand is "very far from being achieved." The party acknowledges the improvements implemented, but alerts to the need to move forward with the complete road connection.
In the same statement, the communists denounce what they call "propaganda maneuvers" and make an appeal to the population of the region and all those who advocate for better access to continue fighting for this objective.
PCP states that it will continue to intervene through all means at its disposal to keep this struggle alive, considering it essential for improving the quality of life and promoting the development of the Baixo Alentejo region.
