Fitch raises Portugal's rating to A+ with stable outlook

Observador4 September 2026 at 23:15

The Fitch rating agency raised Portugal's credit rating from A to A+, assigning it a stable outlook at the same time. This upgrade represents a vote of confidence in the Portuguese economy by one of the main risk assessment agencies.

Fitch justified the decision with the political commitment demonstrated regarding fiscal discipline. This factor was considered decisive for improving the perception of Portuguese sovereign risk.

Additionally, the agency stated that Portuguese public debt is on a downward trajectory, which reinforces the sustainability of the country's public finances.

With this classification, Portugal sees its rating approaching the highest levels assigned by Fitch, reflecting a significant recovery in the country's financial credibility.

The recovery boiler, which already produces 35 t/h of saturated steam at 10 barg, was thus enhanced. It should be noted that CIRES has been operating for more than eight years with a Natural Gas Cogeneration Center, which is fundamental for the industry's international competitiveness.
