José Luís Carneiro accused the Government of obtaining significant profits from the increase in fuel prices and defended the reduction of VAT as a necessary measure.
The official stated that between 2024 and 2025, the Executive earned 1048 million euros through taxes on fuels, evidencing a substantial gain for public finances.
Carneiro also added that between January and July, the Government obtained an increase in VAT revenue worth 1070 million euros, a direct result of the impact of inflation on prices.
Based on these statistics, José Luís Carneiro expressed his intention to lower VAT, arguing that this reduction would be beneficial for consumers.
