After the opening of the Avante Festival, the PCP's secretary-general, Jerónimo de Sousa, spoke about the possibility of a motion of censure against the Government. The communist leader stated that, regardless of the content of any motion, one cannot forget the way it is presented.
Jerónimo de Sousa considered that there are deep reasons for the Government to be censured, thus recognizing an eventual validity of a motion in this sense. However, the PCP leader specified that these reasons do not coincide with those put forward by the Chega party.
This position comes in a context where the PCP clearly distances itself from the opposition carried out by Chega, refusing to feed the political agenda of that far-right party. The communist party maintains its independence in relation to the strategies of the other opposition parties.
The Avante Festival, a traditional event of the PCP, thus serves as a stage for these political declarations, at a time when possible motions of censure are being discussed in the Portuguese parliament.
