Misericórdia de Seia commemorates European Heritage Days with initiative dedicated to valuing memory and local heritage

Jornal Santa Marinha4 September 2026 at 20:13

The Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Seia joins the European Heritage Days, which this year take place under the theme "Revive, Resist, Reinvent", promoting an initiative dedicated to the preservation, enhancement and dissemination of local historical heritage. The event is scheduled for September 19th, at 3:00 PM, at the Interpretive Centre of Seia and Its Historic Centre, at Largo da Misericórdia.

The program includes the signing of the transfer protocol for the "Fonte de Ceia", through which the Parish Council of São Romão transfers this heritage element to the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Seia, representing an important contribution to the preservation and enhancement of local heritage and reinforcing cooperation between institutions in safeguarding collective memory.

This is followed by a colloquium led by historian Sérgio Alves, on the topic "Recent Study Data from the Historical Archive of the Misericórdia de Seia", which will allow for the presentation of new findings resulting from the research work on the Institution's Historical Archive.

The initiative is free admission and aims to open heritage to the community, promoting knowledge of the history of the Misericórdia de Seia and reinforcing the importance of preserving the testimonies that help understand the identity and collective memory of the region.

Driving License at 100 Years Old? Is There Actually a Maximum Age to Drive in Portugal?

In Portugal, there is no maximum age to drive light vehicles in category B, but drivers must renew their license at 70 years old and, subsequently, every two years. From the age of 60, it is mandatory to present an electronic medical certificate, and from 70 years old, a detailed report of clinical history is required when the evaluation is not done by the attending physician. It is not necessary to repeat the driving test to renew the license. However, there are specific limits for professional categories: drivers of passenger transport vehicles (categories D1, D1E, D and DE) must stop driving at 67 years old, as well as drivers of CE vehicles with a mass exceeding 20 tons.
