Algarve viticulture is expected to register a production growth between 12% and 15% compared to 2025, approaching the record of almost two million liters achieved in 2024. The president of the Algarve Wine Commission (CVA), Sara Silva, stated that the harvest, which started earlier in July, is coming to an end with a positive balance, both in terms of grape quality and quantities harvested. The region thus expects to reach between 1.8 and 1.9 million liters in 2026, surpassing the less favorable numbers of 2025.
The area dedicated to vineyards in the Algarve has been gradually increasing, currently totaling approximately 2,300 hectares. According to Sara Silva, applications for vineyard planting rights are requested every year, with approximately 200 hectares planned for the next three years. In 2026, the region decided to limit new planting applications. The sales prices practiced by producers average around one euro per kilogram, although some more sought-after or scarce grape varieties achieve higher values.
The Algarve wine sector benefits significantly from tourism, with wine tourism already representing 50% of the revenue of some producers. Sales through hospitality, restaurant, and retail channels also contribute importantly to the activity. The CVA has been working on the international promotion of Algarve wines through events and gastronomic and tourism experiences associated with wine.
