The Pelames beach, located in the municipality of Povoação, on the island of São Miguel, in the Azores, reopened today to swimming. The information was announced by the Povoação City Council.

The reopening occurred only one day after the beach had been banned. The ban was due to the results of the analysis carried out on the bathing waters, which indicated some type of contamination or alteration in the water quality.

The municipality stated that the decision to reopen the beach was made in accordance with the competent authority on bathing water quality, suggesting that new analysis confirmed that the quality levels were again within safe parameters for recreational use.

The beach was thus again available for users to use its facilities for swimming, after the resolution of the problem that had led to its temporary closure.
