Scientists create molecule that eliminates aggressive lymphoma tumors in rats in just 11 days

Researchers at Stanford University, in the United States, claimed to have created a molecule capable of eliminating an aggressive type of lymphoma in rats in just 11 days. The treatment, when applied twice a day, was able to completely eliminate the tumor in less than two weeks.

The molecule works by redirecting one of the most common proteins responsible for B-cell lymphoma to activate cell death. According to the scientists, the goal is to fight cancer at its cause, eliminating the driving force of the disease and reprogramming it to activate cell death mechanisms.

Gerald Crabtree, professor of Pathology and Developmental Biology at the university, explained that the approach essentially seeks to reprogram the mechanism that causes cancer so that it itself activates the death of diseased cells.

Study explains how breathing can influence our decisions

A German study published in the journal Neuron revealed that slow breathing, with expiration longer than inspiration, can make people more likely to take financial risks. "With adequate treatment, most people with epilepsy can live a normal life"

Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disease that affects about 10 in every 1,000 inhabitants in Portugal, and can occur at any age, although it is more frequent in the first year of life and after 60-65 years. Diagnosis is clinical, complemented by electroencephalogram and magnetic resonance imaging, and first-line treatment is pharmacological, with about two-thirds of patients becoming seizure-free. In the event of a tonic-clonic seizure, one should remain calm, protect the person by avoiding dangerous objects, and never try to restrain movements or place anything in the mouth. The causes are varied, including brain lesions, genetic and metabolic factors, and remain unknown in up to half of cases. With adequate treatment, most people can live a normal life, although about 44% of Portuguese patients do not have regular medical follow-up.
