The Setúbal Municipal Council carried out a reorganisation of traffic in the vicinity of the Barbosa du Bocage School Centre, with the aim of increasing road safety in the area. The operation was initiated by the municipal services on the 3rd.
Among the changes implemented, the shift in priority at the intersection of Avenida de Angola with Rua Manuel Joaquim Santana Reimão stands out, with those travelling from Avenida Europa towards Avenida de Angola now having to give way at that location. For this reason, a STOP sign was placed on Rua Manuel Joaquim Santana Reimão.
With regard to pedestrian safety, two pedestrian crossings at the aforementioned intersection were repainted and a new one was created at the connection between Avenida de Angola and Rua Dr. Miguel Homem de Sampaio e Melo, to provide access to the entrance of the new Basic School for the 1st Cycle and Pre-School at the Barbosa du Bocage School Centre.
The intervention also includes the painting of the road centre line between the parking located within the western section of Avenida de Angola and the intersection with Rua Engenheiro Henrique Cabeçadas, recently upgraded, a reorganisation of parking and the creation of specific zones for dropping off and picking up children. To further increase safety, rubber studs with reflectors will be placed in various areas, including the central island at the intersection with Rua Engenheiro Henrique Cabeçadas and the pedestrian crossing near the school entrance.
