The Socialist Party questioned the Government about the lack of human and material resources in the District of Portalegre, warning that the situation is placing growing pressure on the functioning of Justice in the region. The question was submitted in parliament and co-signed by 11 socialist deputies, including Luís Moreira Testa, elected for the Portalegre constituency, and addressed to the Minister of Justice, Rita Alarcão Júdice.
The position comes following statements by the coordinating deputy attorney general of the District of Portalegre, Helder Cordeiro, who lamented the lack of magistrates and court staff in the region. The magistrate warned that the region is experiencing a challenging, complex moment of great pressure, praising the effort of the professionals in service to meet procedural deadlines.
The deputies want to know what the Government's assessment is of the operating conditions of the district, what concrete measures it intends to adopt to urgently reinforce human resources, and whether there is an updated survey of human and material resource needs.
The parliamentarians also intend to ascertain what investments are planned to improve the conditions of the facilities, equipment and technological means of the courts in that Alentejo district, and what schedule the Government has set for the implementation of the necessary reinforcement measures, given the public warning issued by the senior official of the Public Ministry.
