On September 3rd, a protocol was signed between the Municipality of Valença and the GNR for the installation of a video surveillance system in the urban area of the city. This system complements the equipment already existing in the Fortress of Valença.
The new equipment will be installed at strategic points, such as main accesses and areas with higher traffic, with the aim of reinforcing the security of residents, tourists and visitors.
The video surveillance will function as a complementary resource to the presence of GNR military personnel on the ground, aiming to reinforce crime prevention, protect people and property, support civil protection operations, and contribute to a faster response in potentially risky situations.
At the signing of the protocol, the mayor, José Manuel Carpinteira, was present, as well as the commander of the Territorial Command of Viana do Castelo of the GNR, colonel António Maciel da Silva, the commander of the Territorial Detachment of Valença, captain Carlos Dantas, the commander of the Territorial Post of Valença, master sergeant Joaquim Costa, municipal councilors and presidents of Parish Councils.
