The Republican National Guard arrested five men, aged between 25 and 75, suspected of the crimes of illegal weapons possession and drug trafficking. The operation was carried out on September 2nd in the municipalities of Cartaxo and Sesimbra.
The investigation, initiated less than two months ago, was ongoing in the context of crimes of illegal weapons possession, aggravated coercion and qualified theft. The GNR reveals that the actions were triggered after several incidents recorded in the locality of Almoinha, in the municipality of Sesimbra, which involved the use of firearms in public spaces.
The actions culminated in the execution of five home search warrants and four non-domiciliary search warrants. Four of the searches at residences were carried out in the municipality of Sesimbra, three of which were at locations associated with incidents related to the possession and use of firearms in public spaces.
The Setúbal Territorial Command of the GNR states that the operation also made it possible to seize weapons, drugs and money, although the statement does not detail the quantities.
