The dust from North Africa will affect air quality in the coming days, according to information from the Directorate-General for Health. This atmospheric phenomenon is composed of inhalable particles called PM10, which disperse over long distances through the wind.
The DGS clarifies that this pollutant has negative effects on human health, and can cause respiratory problems and worsening of cardiovascular conditions, especially in people with chronic diseases.
The most sensitive population, namely children and the elderly, should be the target of extra precautions during this period. The Directorate-General for Health recommends that these groups avoid prolonged exposure to outdoor air and follow the guidelines of health authorities.
