Due to intense heat, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) placed eleven municipalities in four districts at maximum rural fire danger. The affected municipalities are Vimioso, Miranda do Douro, Mogadouro and Freixo de Espada à Cinta, in the district of Bragança; Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, Pinhel, Guarda, Almeida and Sabugal, in the district of Guarda; Penamacor, in Castelo Branco; and Pampilhosa da Serra, in Coimbra.
More than 50 municipalities in the districts of Vila Real, Bragança, Viseu, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Santarém, Portalegre and Faro face very high fire danger. IPMA indicates that this situation should remain very high in some regions at least until Thursday.
Several districts are under yellow warning until 7:00 PM on Saturday due to hot weather, including Bragança, Viseu, Évora, Guarda, Faro, Vila Real, Setúbal, Santarém, Lisboa, Leiria, Beja, Castelo Branco, Coimbra and Portalegre. The yellow warning is the least severe on a three-level scale.

The forecast for today includes periods of cloudy skies, possibility of showers and thunderstorms in the interior North and Centre from the afternoon, generally light wind and dust in suspension.
