Before forming Foo Fighters, the main act at Rock in Rio 2026, Dave Grohl gained global recognition as the drummer for Nirvana, recruited by the group in 1990. The musician lived for eight months in an apartment shared with Kurt Cobain in the city of Olympia, Washington.

The experience of sharing a home with Cobain inspired Grohl to compose the song "Friend of a friend," released in 2005 on the album "In your honor." The account was given by Grohl himself in an interview with the British newspaper The Guardian.

In the interview, Grohl recalled his life as a musician before moving to Olympia. "My experience in music was: touring in a van, sleeping on a club stage in a sleeping bag, eating instant noodles and then heading to the next city," he stated.

Grohl also said that when he arrived in Olympia, he felt like "an alien." Additionally, the artist revealed he suffered from negative perceptions about rock listeners, without providing further details on this particular aspect.
