Rebecca Black, now 28 years old and working as a singer and DJ, is looking back at the phenomenon of her song "Friday", released 15 years ago on YouTube when she was only 13 years old. The song quickly became an internet phenomenon and turned the young girl into one of the biggest memes of the era.

In an interview with Billboard's On the Record program, Rebecca commented that understanding what was happening wasn't easy, mainly because she was still a child and following in real time all the fallout from the song while trying to understand her own identity and the music industry.

The artist questioned whether a song can become a hit "the wrong way", reflecting on the nature of her sudden fame and on how going viral doesn't always bring positive consequences for those who experience it.

Rebecca stated that putting into perspective the numbers and the reality of what was happening was something extremely difficult during that period of her life, evidencing the emotional impact that massive exposure had on her still in her adolescence.
