Loures distributes bracelets that detect the 'date rape drug'

Observador3 September 2026 at 19:48

The Loures City Council is distributing Celentis bracelets, a device developed by NOVA FCT that allows the detection of GHB, known as the 'date rape drug', in drinks. The bracelets work through a technology that changes colour when it identifies the substance in the drink.

GHB is a substance frequently associated with cases of sexual assault, being used to incapacitate victims. The technology developed by NOVA FCT aims to provide a practical prevention tool for people, especially in nightlife contexts.

The campaign for distributing the Celentis bracelets will run until the end of 2026, allowing a significant number of citizens to have access to this safety device. The Loures municipality is thus investing in the prevention and protection of its residents against this type of crime.

Manufacturers warn: do not do this to the washing machine right after using it

Experts warn that leaving the washing machine door completely open after each use can paradoxically cause more problems than it solves. Although ventilation is necessary to prevent fungi and bacteria, the excess air and dust accumulated in an exposed drum over long periods can damage the hinges and sealing rubbers, leading to closure failures and small water leaks. The recommendation is to leave the door slightly ajar for about 30 minutes or until the interior is dry. Manufacturers such as Samsung and LG also suggest high-temperature maintenance washes, drum cleaning cycles, and regular cleaning of rubber seals to ensure hygiene and extend the appliance's lifespan.
