However, according to information published by the Spanish digital newspaper Noticias Trabalho, this practice can have negative consequences in the medium term. The hinges and sealing rubbers were not designed to withstand constant pressure, which can result in closure failures or even small water leaks.
The consumer testing magazine ÖKO-TEST recommends leaving the door open for only about 30 minutes after each wash, or until the interior is dry. Keeping the door wide open for long periods causes the drum to function like any surface in the house, accumulating dust and dirt from the air, which can compromise hygiene and washing effectiveness.
Manufacturers such as Samsung and LG reinforce these care tips. Samsung advises leaving the door and detergent drawer open to allow drying and suggests regular cleaning of the pump filter. LG recommends running the Tub Clean cycle approximately once a month and frequent cleaning of the door seal.
To keep the machine in good condition, experts also suggest periodic high-temperature washes, maintenance empty cycles with vinegar or specific products, and regular cleaning of rubber seals with a dry cloth. The secret lies in balancing the necessary ventilation without overdoing it, avoiding both immediate closing and excessive prolonged opening.
