The mayor of Viseu, João Azevedo, lamented that the municipality lost 26 million euros from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) due to lack of planning and projects. The socialist mayor, elected in the last local elections, made a negative assessment of the PRR's implementation in the municipality, explaining that from an initial target of 71 million euros, only 31 million were approved and 18 million executed.
According to João Azevedo, the areas of housing, health, and education were the most harmed. In the specific case of housing, which was considerably affected by lack of execution, there was a target of 34.5 million euros, but only 8.5 million euros in financing was secured, representing 26 million euros in financing not realized.
The mayor explained that the problems in housing included public houses and rehabilitation of properties that the Municipality of Viseu bought but did not rehabilitate due to lack of projects, as well as works that started late and were not completed, now standing idle.
João Azevedo now hopes that the Government will present a solution to finish the works that started and were not completed, emphasizing that it is in everyone's and the country's interest that these projects be realized, as people's well-being is at stake.
