Lisbon closed the session with slight losses, on a day when the main European markets recorded gains. The European markets benefited from a relief sentiment provided by the decline in sovereign debt yields, which have been accelerating in recent days.
However, the Portuguese PSI index failed to follow the positive trend recorded in other European stock exchanges. The PSI closed in negative territory, reflecting the pressure on the Portuguese market.
The sectors that weighed most heavily on the PSI's negative performance were the utilities companies and the retail sector. These areas were the main ones responsible for halting any possibility of recovery for the index during the session.
