AgroSemana opened this Thursday at AGROS Space, in Argivai, with the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, José Manuel Fernandes, who marked the official start of one of the country's largest agricultural events. The government official highlighted the importance of sustainability in communities and emphasized challenges such as competitiveness, water use efficiency, and generational renewal in the agricultural sector.

During his speech, the minister warned about the negative perception that still surrounds agriculture and that may drive young people away from the sector. José Manuel Fernandes stated that it is necessary to combat the idea that the farmer is a polluter, that the forest is associated only with fires, and that agriculture only has problems, defending the valorization and the true perception of the sector's importance.

The visit precedes the AgroSemana Grand Conference, which takes place this Friday at 2:30 PM, dedicated to the theme "The current challenges of the agri-food sector along the value chain." The opening session will be led by Idalino Leão and Pedro Machado, followed by a roundtable with Armindo Monteiro, Gonçalo Lobo Xavier, Ana Jacinto, and Sara Pinto, moderated by Catarina Castro.

The event runs until Sunday, September 6th, with a program that combines agricultural innovation, technical demonstrations, showcookings, and three nights of concerts. Entry is free until 6:00 PM on September 3rd, 4th, and 5th, as well as throughout Sunday. After that time, access costs 5 euros for those over 12 years old, with a three-day pass also available for 12 euros.

Figueira da Foz may connect to Coimbra by Metrobus

The Câmara da Figueira da Foz announced that it may connect to Coimbra through a Metrobus system, following a meeting between president Pedro Santana Lopes and the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz. The mayor revealed that the Metrobus connection project was guaranteed by the government and represents only 20% of the investment needed for railway line electrification, being executed in a significantly shorter timeframe. Santana Lopes considered that the current connection between the two cities should not remain as it is, although the project should be coordinated with the high-speed railway line that will cross the region. The municipality also revealed having an agreement with CP for the transfer of the old workshop pavilions near the railway station, which it intends to requalify into an intermodal space between public transports.
